The Hidden Underground City for Twenty Thousand

Deep beneath Turkey lies an ancient city carved eighty-five meters into rock. This massive subterranean labyrinth once housed twenty thousand people, complete with livestock and food storage, hidden away for safety.

This incredible site, known as Derinkuyu, served as a self-sustaining refuge during times of war. Its ingenious design featured complex ventilation shafts and massive stone doors that could only be locked from the inside to protect residents. Families could live there for months at a time without ever needing to come to the surface. Archaeologists believe it was part of a vast network connecting many hidden cities across the region.
