Your Brain Can Miss a Gorilla
When your mind is focused on a specific task, you can become literally blind to obvious objects right in front of you. In a famous test, half of the people counting basketball passes completely failed to notice a person walking by in a gorilla suit.
This phenomenon is known as inattentional blindness, showing that we do not actually see everything that hits our eyes. Our brain acts like a filter, aggressively ignoring information it deems irrelevant to our immediate goal. This means you might overlook major events happening in plain sight simply because your focus was locked elsewhere. It is a humbling reminder that our perception of reality is much more selective than we realize.
