The Beatles' Final Unplanned Rooftop Gig

The Beatles' Final Unplanned Rooftop Gig

The Beatles' legendary final performance wasn't in a stadium but on a chilly London office rooftop. The iconic show ended abruptly when police arrived to shut it down for being too loud.

In 1969, the band surprised busy office workers by playing a 42-minute set atop their Apple Corps headquarters. Joined by keyboardist Billy Preston, they performed nine takes of five songs before authorities stepped in to stop the noise. It was their last time ever playing in public together. John Lennon ended the impromptu concert with a classic quip about hoping they had passed their audition.
