The Catch-22 of Future Technology

We face an impossible trap when creating new technology. We cannot know if a tool is dangerous until it is everywhere, but by then, it is already too ingrained in society to change.

This paradox explains why it is so difficult to regulate emerging tech like AI or social media. Early on, we lack the data to see the long-term harms, but by the time the negative effects emerge, the technology is already vital to our economy and daily lives. Trying to fix these issues later requires uprooting entire systems that have become essential. It is a constant race against a clock that we cannot see.
