Hades Was The God Of Wealth

Hades Was The God Of Wealth

Although he ruled the gloomy underworld, Hades was also the Greek god of riches. The title referred to the precious metals and gems found deep within the earth under his command.

People often mistake Hades for a malevolent figure, but he was actually a stern warden rather than a villain. Because he controlled all the treasures hidden beneath the ground, the Greeks viewed him as the source of human prosperity. He was known as Plouton, a name that literally means wealth. Interestingly, he was the first child of his parents, yet he suffered the odd fate of being the last one coughed up by his father after being eaten.
