Japan's Annual Festival of Fertility

Each spring, the streets of Kawasaki fill with thousands of people celebrating the Kanamara Matsuri, a vibrant festival centered entirely around the phallus. Participants parade giant sculptures through town and enjoy phallus-shaped snacks to honor health and fertility.

This unique tradition traces its roots back to a local legend involving a demon and a blacksmith. Over time, it evolved into a way to pray for easy childbirth and marital harmony. While the imagery is bold, the atmosphere is incredibly lighthearted and welcoming to tourists. Today, it also serves as a major fundraiser for HIV research and awareness.
