The Royal Aviary of London

Birdcage Walk in London was once the site of a royal menagerie for exotic birds. King James I kept an aviary full of rare species here, which inspired the street's unusual name centuries ago.

Long before it became a bustling street near Buckingham Palace, this path was a private enclosure for the King's collection of exotic birds. Though the birds are long gone, the name remains as a quirky reminder of the area's regal history. Today, it serves as a serene boundary between the city's government buildings and the lush greenery of St. James's Park.
