The Band Named After A Revolutionary
The post-punk project The Durutti Column takes its name from a misspelling of a historic Spanish anarchist militia. They turned an activist group into a cult musical collective.
The group was inspired by the Durruti Column, a revolutionary unit from the Spanish Civil War. By intentionally misspelling the name, the band cemented its identity as an edgy, unconventional project. Lead guitarist Vini Reilly became a legend for his delicate, ethereal style that defied typical punk aggression. Today, their unique blend of post-punk and ambient guitar remains a hidden gem for music history fans.
