Designing Life Beyond Earthly Blueprints

Designing Life Beyond Earthly Blueprints

Xenobiology is the science of creating life forms that do not exist in nature. Scientists are currently building alternative genetic codes and entirely new building blocks for life that replace standard DNA.

While all known life on Earth relies on the same DNA and protein system, xenobiologists are writing a different set of rules. They create artificial genetic structures called XNA that function like DNA but are chemically unrecognizable to natural organisms. This research pushes us to redefine the boundaries of what it actually means to be alive. By engineering these alien biochemistries, experts hope to understand how life might evolve on distant, non-Earth-like planets.
