The Inside-Out Skyscraper of London

The iconic Lloyd's building in London is designed inside-out. To maximize interior office space, all the functional infrastructure like elevators, water pipes, and electrical ducts are placed on the outside.

This radical design approach is known as Bowellism. By stripping the guts of the building and moving them to the exterior facade, architects created vast, flexible floor plates that can be easily reconfigured. It creates a striking, high-tech industrial aesthetic that stands out sharply against the historic skyline. It remains a masterclass in functional architectural rebellion.
