You Think You Know People Better

We suffer from a bias where we believe we understand others far better than they understand us. We treat our own private thoughts as transparent truths while viewing others as mysterious puzzles.

This happens because we mistake our own impulsive reactions for being unrevealing, yet we judge the same behavior in others as deeply symbolic. We essentially assume our inner life is a wide-open book while assuming others are hiding their true motives. This blind spot often leads to conflict, as we feel misunderstood while simultaneously overconfident in our own perceptions of others. Recognizing this gap can actually help us bridge the divide in our everyday relationships.
