The Global Diversity of Breakfast
Breakfast is not a universal concept of eggs or cereal. In many cultures, the morning meal is simply leftovers or spicy, savory dishes that look more like dinner than a typical sunrise snack.
While Western cultures often prioritize sweet or light morning foods, other regions define breakfast quite differently. For example, in parts of Japan, it is common to eat miso soup and grilled fish, while some Middle Eastern traditions favor hearty fava bean stews. Even the word breakfast simply refers to breaking the overnight fast, allowing for incredible culinary freedom. This variation shows that our morning rituals are shaped entirely by local history and ingredients.
