The Ostrich Effect Bias
Humans intentionally ignore negative information to protect their feelings, much like the myth of an ostrich hiding its head. Even when facts could help solve a problem, people prefer to avoid them to escape stress.
This cognitive bias explains why we often skip opening emails about debt or avoid checking project feedback. While avoiding bad news provides temporary comfort, it usually leads to worse long-term outcomes. Interestingly, the behavior is named after a total myth, as ostriches do not actually bury their heads in the sand. Recognizing this tendency is the first step toward facing uncomfortable truths head-on.
