The World Most Expensive Excrement Coffee

Kopi luwak is a luxury coffee made from beans harvested from the droppings of a small cat-like animal. As the civet digests the coffee cherries, enzymes ferment the beans to produce a uniquely smooth flavor.

This unusual process began in Indonesia when colonial farmers were barred from picking their own coffee beans. They discovered that wild civets consumed the ripest cherries, leaving behind the beans in their waste. Local workers realized these discarded beans could be cleaned and brewed into a surprisingly tasty drink. Today, the high demand for this coffee has unfortunately led to the rise of commercial farms where civets are kept in cages.
