Why Your Outbursts Are Actually Defenses
Acting out is not just bad behavior; it is a subconscious shield used to manage painful emotions. Instead of expressing feelings through words, the brain forces the body to vent tension physically.
When people feel overwhelmed by emotions they cannot process, they may act them out through impulsive or antisocial behaviors. This serves as a defense mechanism, shielding the mind from acknowledging deep-seated anxiety or sadness. Because this happens subconsciously, the person often lacks awareness of why they are acting that way. It is the psyche's way of finding a physical release for a mental burden that feels impossible to speak aloud.
