The Short Reign of Koror's Chief

Louch served as the High Chief of Koror during a period of massive geopolitical transformation. He held the title of Ibedul while his island chain was under German colonial rule.

The title of Ibedul is a hereditary position of immense cultural and political importance in Palau. Louch led his people from 1911 to 1917, navigating a volatile era when Pacific territories frequently changed hands. Shortly after his term ended, the region shifted from German to Japanese administration during the First World War. His time in power remains a snapshot of a Pacific nation caught between major global powers.
