The World’s First Global Sexology Center

In 1919, Berlin opened the world’s first dedicated sexology research institute. While it sounds modern, this pioneering center provided groundbreaking medical care and gender-affirming support nearly a century ago.

Founded by Magnus Hirschfeld, the institute aimed to bring scientific rigor to the study of human sexuality and gender identity. It housed a massive library, offered counseling services, and provided early medical treatments that were decades ahead of their time. The facility functioned as both a non-profit clinic and a public museum, welcoming visitors from all walks of life. Sadly, its progress was cut short when it was targeted and destroyed by the Nazi regime in 1933.
