The Region Further South Than California

Most people assume Canada is strictly northern, yet Southwestern Ontario sits at a latitude similar to Northern California. This region actually extends further south than parts of the American state of Oregon.

This unique geographical pocket is surrounded by three Great Lakes, which helps moderate its temperature significantly. Because of this, the area enjoys a much longer growing season than the rest of the country. Locals can grow crops here that are typically found in much warmer climates. It is a surprising slice of temperate land tucked away in a northern nation.
