The UN Plan To Internationalize Jerusalem

In 1947, the United Nations proposed a plan to split Palestine into two separate states while placing Jerusalem under a unique international regime. This meant the city was never intended to belong to either side.

This bold proposal sought to solve regional tensions by creating an independent administrative zone for the Holy City. By designating Jerusalem as a corpus separatum, the UN aimed to protect the diverse religious interests in the region.
