The Terrifying Scale of Extreme Tornadoes

While typical tornadoes are relatively small, the most extreme storms can reach massive proportions. Some can span over three kilometers in diameter and sustain winds exceeding 480 kilometers per hour.

Most tornadoes we see are modest, moving short distances with moderate wind speeds. However, nature has the capacity to produce monsters that dwarf entire city centers. These rare, wide-track tornadoes stay on the ground for over a hundred kilometers, causing catastrophic destruction along their path. They act more like a giant, swirling wall of debris than the classic thin funnel cloud you might expect.
