The Maison de Verre was revolutionary because it used translucent glass blocks instead of traditional brick walls. It was built directly underneath an existing older apartment, leaving the top floor intact during construction. This clever design created a private, light-filled sanctuary in the heart of a dense city. Today, it is considered one of the most significant buildings of the twentieth century.
