The Lost Golden Age of Ukraine

Ukraine once enjoyed a vibrant cultural awakening known as the Executed Renaissance, which produced world-class art before being wiped out by Stalin. This entire generation of intellectuals was systematically erased from history.

During the 1920s, Ukraine experienced an explosion of creativity in film, literature, and painting that rivaled European avant-garde movements. This brilliance was cut short by the Great Terror, where the Soviet regime executed or imprisoned the vast majority of these talented creators. Their works were banned and hidden to crush Ukrainian national identity. Today, we are still uncovering the depth of this lost artistic heritage.
