Japan’s Defensive Military Paradox

Japan maintains a formidable modern army despite its constitution officially renouncing war. Its ground forces utilize some of the most advanced, locally engineered hardware in the world while strictly adhering to a non-offensive doctrine.

After World War II, Japan adopted a pacifist constitution that limits its military to purely self-defensive purposes. Because of this, they cannot deploy traditional expeditionary equipment and instead focus on highly specialized, defensive-oriented technology. Much of their weaponry, like the Type 10 tank, is manufactured domestically to meet these unique security requirements. This results in a highly capable force that is ironically built to never attack.
