Venus: A Planet That Melts Lead

Despite being Earth's twin in size, Venus is a hellscape where the atmosphere is so dense it behaves like a liquid. With temperatures hot enough to melt lead, it is the only place in the solar system where the air essentially crushes you.

Venus is blanketed by thick clouds of sulfuric acid that trap heat, creating a runaway greenhouse effect. The pressure at its surface is equivalent to being a kilometer deep under Earth's ocean, which is enough to easily crush a standard submarine. Because of this extreme environment, any probe that lands there typically survives for only a few hours. Even though it looks like a peaceful, bright star from our view, it is arguably the most hostile planet in our neighborhood.
