Tadao Ando became one of the world's most famous architects despite never attending architecture school. He famously honed his skills by visiting buildings across the globe and studying them on his own.

Instead of sitting in a classroom, Ando traveled across Europe, Africa, and the United States to study great buildings in person. He used his background as a former professional boxer to develop the discipline needed for his unique, minimalist style. His signature work blends smooth, heavy concrete with the delicate movement of light and nature. By mastering these raw materials, he earned the Pritzker Prize, the industry's highest honor.
