The Philosopher Who Denied Motion Exists

Ancient Greek thinker Zeno of Elea argued that motion is a logical impossibility. He famously claimed that because a runner must always cover half the distance to a goal, they can never technically reach the finish line.

Zeno crafted these famous brain-teasers to prove his mentor's theory that the universe is just one unchanging, singular entity. By breaking down movement into infinite smaller segments, he suggested that it would take infinite time to complete any task. While modern mathematics uses calculus to resolve these paradoxes, his logic challenged the way we perceive reality for over two thousand years.
