The Origin Of The Inferiority Complex
Alfred Adler coined the term inferiority complex to describe how deep feelings of inadequacy drive our personality. He argued that we only find true worth by contributing to society rather than just ourselves.
Unlike his peer Sigmund Freud, Adler believed that our social connections define who we are more than our hidden desires. He famously studied how birth order impacts a child's outlook and perceived role within the family. By viewing people as an indivisible whole, he taught that overcoming personal struggles is the key to mental health. His work remains the foundation for how we understand human connection and social belonging today.
