The Surreal Origins of Regular Show

The iconic characters in Regular Show were not originally intended for television. They were pulled directly from the creators college sketchbook and short films featuring crude drawings of supernatural creatures.

Creator J.G. Quintel first dreamed up Mordecai and Benson while attending the California Institute of the Arts. He used these characters in early student shorts that were much more aggressive and vulgar than the eventual hit show. It is fascinating how these simple doodles evolved into a globally recognized series. This transition from sketchbook to network television is a masterclass in creative persistence.
