Science and Religion Are Modern Inventions

People believe science and religion have always been opposing forces, but these terms only became distinct concepts in the 19th century. Ancient societies did not categorize their world through this modern lens.

The idea of a struggle between these two fields is a relatively new historical narrative. Before the 1800s, there was no sharp boundary separating how we studied nature from how we practiced faith. The rise of professional science and global cultural changes actually forced these two realms into the separate boxes we see today. It turns out this famous conflict is more about how we label our history than it is about fundamental human experience.
