During World War II, the British military built a giant rocket-propelled wheel packed with explosives intended to smash through enemy defenses. It proved impossible to control and frequently veered off course, turning into a dangerous disaster.

The Panjandrum was essentially a massive steel drum surrounded by rockets that was meant to roll onto beaches and explode. During trials, the device would often shed rockets, spin wildly, or chase spectators across the sand. Because it lacked any steering mechanism, the military eventually abandoned the project entirely. It remains a legendary example of how unconventional wartime innovation can sometimes lead to absurd results.
