For decades, the only way to listen to music in your car was through a simple AM radio. Some manufacturers even tried installing miniature record players in dashboards before technology moved to tapes and digital streaming.

During the 1950s, car audio was strictly limited to AM broadcasts. Automakers experimented with complex gadgets like the Highway Hi-Fi, which attempted to play vinyl records inside moving vehicles. As technology progressed, drivers cycled through 8-tracks, cassettes, and CDs before arriving at today's smartphone-connected systems. Modern voice commands and steering wheel controls have turned these once-primitive radios into complete multimedia command centers.
