Think of a record as a physical map of a sound wave. As the needle bumps along the textured walls of the groove, it vibrates to mimic the original audio pressure. It is essentially a 3D sculpture of music that you can touch. Remarkably, this analog technology remains the only format where you can visually see the music encoded on the disc.
