This theatrical concept relies on a shared agreement between the creators and the audience to ignore the existence of the camera or the theater house. By pretending they cannot see the viewers, characters maintain the illusion that their story is a self-contained reality. When a character suddenly acknowledges the audience, it is called breaking the fourth wall. This technique is often used to create humor or build an intimate connection between the viewer and the star.
