Predators That Steal Their Prey's Weapons

Some sea slugs survive by literally stealing the stinging cells of the jellyfish they eat. Instead of digesting the stingers, they store them in their own skin to use as personal defensive armor.

This process is called kleptocnidy, a fascinating way of recycling biological weaponry. After consuming cnidarians like anemones or jellyfish, the slug carefully transports these undischarged stingers to specialized sacs on its back. The slug then fires these stolen weapons to ward off its own enemies. It is a brilliant example of nature repurposing a lethal threat into a clever shield.
